The Latest Cruise Trend Is All About Wellness
Next year sees the launch of Blue World Voyages, a cruise line entirely focused on wellness. Founded by Gene Meehan, who started and then ran the Downtown Athletic Club—Miami’s largest commercial health club—for ten years, Blue World will debut the first of its refit 350-passenger ships next spring. Billing itself as the first cruise company, and the first ship, dedicated to an active lifestyle, the line will head to ports that offer ample opportunities for cycling, hiking, golf, and watersports, as well as yoga, meditation, and cultural enrichment. (Right now, itineraries around the Mediterranean, Cuba, and Costa Rica are at the top of Meehan’s mind.) Onboard, guests will find yoga, spinning, and TRX studios; golf simulators and batting cages; a sports-medicine clinic; and the largest luxury spa per passenger at sea. On the nutrition side, food will be fresh, healthy, locally sourced, and overseen by a chef who spent time in the kitchens of Chez Panisse and Charlie Trotter’s.
